What is the length of stay ? You must stay in your host family for 12 months and if you wish, you could stay 1 more month to visit the country.
Which organisation sets forth the regulations about Au pair placement in USA ? The american government totally supervises your stay : your visa, pocket money, tuition, etc ...
What kind of courses can I attend ? Your host family offers you up to $ 500 for tuition. You can attend English, history, theater, dancing courses and more ...
What are the fees ? registration fee, deposit which will be reimbursed to you at the end of your program, placement fee, visa fee for a maximum global amount of 480 €.
Why and when do I need to give a deposit ? The american government asks you to give a deposit once you've been placed. We give you the option of paying your deposit by check or credit transfer. This way, you won't have any exchange fee. We remind you that your deposit will be reimbursed to you at the end of your stay (cf Au pair agreement).
I don't have a driving licence, can I apply ? Yes, you can apply but you should take the test as soon as possible. As a matter of fact, 98% of the american families require who are drivers au pairs.
Do I need an international driving licence ? Yes, it's necessary. You will obtain it at your Prefecture after your placement is confirmed.
How many hours am I required to work ? You are required to work 45 hours per week and up to 10 hours maximum per day.
How much will I earn ? You will have full board, a private room and $ 195,75 allowance per week.
What level of education do I need ? High school diploma minimum.
Who will help me during my stay in USA ? You will have a local counselor who you will meet regularly during monthly meetings.
How high should my English language level be ? You should speak reasonable English. As a matter of fact, you'll probably have an interview in English at the US Embassy. Moreover, the Au pair school training runs only in English.
What does my health insurance cover ? The basic plan is free and covers civil liability and some of your medical expenses. If you wish to upgrade your insurance, you can apply when in USA.
How and from where does the registration process take place ? Once your file is completed, you should call us to get an appointment (Phone number + 33 (0)1 41 44 01 85). The interview takes place in our office. We can interview you on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. During this appointment, you will have to hand in your registration form so we can go over it. We also evaluate your English language level. The interview lasts about 2 hours. If you are from out of town, you can book a night in a youth hostel (http://www.fuaj.org/fra/auberges/auberges.php). This could be a great opportunity to visit Paris Please don't worry about this interview : it helps us to know you better and to evaluate your motivation.
When do I need to register ? We offer departures all year long and we advise you to register at least 3 months prior to your wished departure date.
How does the training work at the Au pair school ? During the 4 days training, you will meet other au pairs and you will learn about safety rules, first aid and child development. You'll get full board during the training.
Where do the host families live ? We cover most of the American states and particularly California, New York state and Michigan.
Will I have time off ? You will have 2 weeks paid vacation. You will need to inform your host family early on about your plans. Moreover, you will have a month at the end of your Au pair stay to go sightseeing.
What kind of references should I provide ? You should provide at least two childcare references and one character reference. If you want to be placed quickly, you should provide at least 200 to 250 hours of childcare experience with children under 2 years of age. Childcare and character references have to come from difference people and not family members.
What do I have to do to apply for my visa ? Once you've been placed, we'll forward you all the necessary papers for your application.
What are my Au pair duties ? Your duties are related to childcare, which means walking or driving the children to school, tidying their rooms, doing their laundry, preparing meals, partaking in development activities such as playing games, drawing or helping, with homework, etc ...
